Spotlight on You

Jen Fisher, Deloitte, was interviewed by the World Economic Forum in a piece titled The Rise of the Chief Well-being Officer and Why It Matters.

"I drive Deloitte’s strategy and innovation around well-being. It’s my job to empower all of our employees to be their best selves professionally and personally. Sometimes that means creating education programmes and resources to help our people learn the skills that will be critical in the future of work, like building relationships, managing change, and developing resilience," Fisher shared. "Sometimes it’s working with our network of leaders and sponsors to create and embed well-being strategies tailored to the unique challenges they’re facing in their businesses."

Carrie Oman, Booz Allen Hamilton, wrote an article on how companies can create environments that help, not hurt employee well-being while staving off burnout and building emotional transparency.

"When done right, leaders’ emotional transparency can kickstart an open, connected company culture. This includes holding town halls where leaders express their emotions openly and hold space for difficult conversations. It empowers employees to feel comfortable sharing opinions and solutions beneficial to the business and culture of the workplace."

Katie Stannard, Stantec, was interviewed on her role as a Mental Health First Aider at work and at home. 

"Mental health, whether good or bad, has such a big impact on how much energy we bring to work and take home with us. It affects our performance and our relationships with others. Everyone will experience poor mental health at some point in their life. Being an MHFA is important to me as it provides that visible, confidential support network to support others to seek the help they might need."

Focus on Employee Well-Being | Physical, Emotional, Financial, Social, and Professional Wellness

Northrop Grumman says it is #DefiningPossible with a series of "People Symposiums." The company recently hosted various employee events focused on career paths, training and development opportunities, and well-being programs. "The events reinforce our mission-driven work and our culture of belonging, allowing employees to thrive in their lives and careers," leaders shared.

Beginning this year, eligible Delta Air Lines employees can earn up to $1,000 to fuel their emergency savings when they complete a financial education/coaching program and contribute to an emergency savings account. This new program, created in partnership with financial advisory organization Operation HOPE and workplace provider Fidelity Investments, aims to help Delta employees strengthen their financial well-being by addressing a common challenge seen nationwide.

“At Delta, we know that physical, emotional, social, and financial health are essential for our people to be at their best,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “This investment in the financial well-being of our employees is a practical solution to a common challenge. With stronger financial literacy and the peace of mind of a safety net, our team can worry less and focus on the goals that matter most to them.”

Adobe announced a new wellbeing program approach to focus on community and collective being.

"From progressive fertility benefits that make reproductive services more accessible and affordable; to holistic time off benefits including up to six months of parental leave, and regular companywide days off to recharge together; to pay parity across gender and race, prioritizing the complete wellbeing of our employees has been essential to our growth and success."

KPMG recently piloted a well-being program for its partners to help them learn the skills they need to role model well-being and create an unparalleled people experience. The program includes a self-assessment for partners to determine their current state of well-being, identification of areas they want to improve, and guidance on how to connect and support others’ well-being.

 

In honor of Stress Awareness Month, Sanofi UK announced it is offering the ‘MIND Managing Mental Health at Work’ to its people managers.The training aims to raise awareness of mental health, explore how to build resilience, and provide support for colleagues in the workplace.

"This is just one of the diverse range of resources Sanofi employees can access to support their mental wellbeing," the company shared, "from nutrition advice to team physical activities, menopause workshops to art therapy classes..."

Prologis partnered with Carrot Fertility to provide employees with inclusive, comprehensive fertility healthcare and family-forming assistance. This includes support for assisted reproduction like in vitro fertilization, preservation, adoption, pregnancy and postpartum, menopause and more. With this benefit, Prologis employees can confidentially talk to specialists, access expert resources, information and find planning guidance, including funding options to help pay for care.

 

AstraZeneca Egypt launched its first “AstraZeneca Kids Got Talent” Program presenting employees' children's talents in a live show as part of its social wellbeing agenda. This contest aimed to promote children’s creativity and confidence and to create a special bond with their parents’ work and environment. The company welcomed participants between the ages of 3 and 11 from all across Egypt who shared their talents in front of a live virtual panel and hundreds of audience members.

 

This spring, Liberty Mutual Insurance announced the launch of Liberty in Motion, a four-week global activity challenge aimed at helping our team members of all abilities stay active and connected. The goal? To reach a collective 500 million steps or equivalent activity and donate $25,000 to Action Against Hunger, an organization committed to ending food insecurity.

Sustainability & ESG Reports Released

Xcel Energy announced in its 18th annual Sustainability Report that 53% of its energy mix is carbon-free energy, compared to an average of 41% nationwide.

Guided by our customers’ priorities and enabled by rapidly changing technology, we’re driving toward a clean energy future, bringing reliable, affordable, increasingly clean energy to millions,” shared Bob Frenzel, chairman, president, and CEO of Xcel Energy.

Applied Materials released its 2022 sustainability report, detailing environmental, social, and governance initiatives and results from the past year.

President and CEO, Gary Dickerson, says “Applied Materials is at the forefront of semiconductor technologies that play an ever-increasing role in our lives. As we bring transformative new innovations to market, we are working closely with our suppliers and customers to minimize our environmental impact by reducing our products’ resource consumption and carbon emissions. We are also continuing our strong commitment to a culture of inclusion at Applied where everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute and grow in their careers.”

Cenovus Energy Inc. released its 2022 ESG report, detailing environmental, social, and governance initiatives and results from the past year. The company also announced a milestone to reduce absolute methane emissions in its upstream operations by 80% by year-end 2028, from a 2019 baseline.

“Strong sustainability performance is fundamental to our business and we continue to pursue opportunities to progress our ESG targets and ambition for net zero emissions from operations by 2050, including establishing our new methane milestone,” said Jon McKenzie, Cenovus President & Chief Executive Officer. “By continuing to aggressively focus on near-term action on methane, we’re able to achieve meaningful reductions immediately as we also apply and advance technologies to enable future decarbonization of our operations.”
