Spotlight on You

Sharifa A. Anderson has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer by Fannie Mae. Anderson will be a member of Fannie Mae’s Management Committee and serve as the company’s first Chief D&I Officer in this newly created role. “I look forward to working alongside Fannie Mae’s leadership team to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce, and a housing industry that shares Fannie Mae’s mission to facilitate equitable and sustainable access to homeownership and rental housing across the country," said Anderson.

Adé Heyliger, a partner in Weil, Gotshal & Manges’ public company advisory group, has been named among Savoy magazine’s 2022 Most Influential Black Lawyers. (The company celebrated his inclusion here.) Adé was recognized for his diverse legal practice which includes advising public companies and corporate boards on various governance matters, as well as counseling on matters relating to shareholder activism.

Alan Horowitz has been named vice president of sustainability at Aramark. Horowitz will be working on goals outlined in Aramark’s sustainability plan, which features a company-wide climate strategy. Additionally, Horowitz will oversee the company's Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) reporting as well as strategies, policies, and programs to advance sustainability within and across the company. “Alan has built his career working with business leaders to convert their passion for sustainability into industry leading ESG programs,” said Ash Hanson, senior vice president and chief diversity and sustainability officer at Aramark. “Because of this expertise, he will play a pivotal role in evolving and elevating our sustainability plan, including our commitment to setting enterprise-wide science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

Emiliano Introcaso, export help advisor, Export Development Canada, was featured in EDC's TradeInsights blog on the benefits of supply chain sustainability. In the post, Introcaso interviewed Kevin Lyons, the associate professor of supply chain archaeology at Rutgers Business School, and Arnon Melo, managing director of MELLOHAWK Logistics, one of EDC’s customers. “Increasingly, consumers want to know that the goods they buy are responsibly sourced, both environmentally and socially, and are willing to pay a premium for that transparency,” says Introcaso.

COMPANIES TAKE ACTION ON UKRAINE: We are updating the blog post How Companies Are Responding to the War in Ukraine: A Roundup with the latest responses from our member companies. Here’s more of the latest member news:

Allstate Insurance Company of Canada announced the launch of a public education campaign—in partnership with Inclusion Canada—focused on ableism and how it impacts those living with disabilities. Despite one in five Canadians currently identifying as having a disability, many do not understand the impact of ableism, which is the belief that those with disabilities are of less value than others. The campaign will run from February to April 2022 with the goal of defining ableism and raising awareness about its impact. Previously, Allstate Canada donated $50,000 to Inclusion Canada between 2020-2021 to support the initial development of the campaign.

ATB Financial announced its support of new transport options for local Indigenous communities. The move comes as Canada introduced the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada which aims to raise awareness of and educate Canadians on the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, which separated Indigenous children from their families to attend residential schools. ATB Financial donated $5,000 to finance the transportation needs of some area families. Transportation as long-served as a major barrier for indigenous people.

Auto Club Group will provide $250,000 in scholarships to five students attending historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The AAA Social Justice Innovator Scholarship will be offered to students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, math, and business. “As Black History Month honors its leaders of the past and present, ACG is offering this scholarship to financially support the leaders and innovators of tomorrow,” said Keith Mobley, ACG assistant vice president of corporate social responsibility. of B.
