Spotlight on You

Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, expressed his organization’s continued commitment to community partner operations as it reallocates more than $1.75 million to expedite unrestricted cash for nonprofits. "We're committed to doing everything we can to help our nonprofit partners during these trying times," said Bellows. "That includes honoring our sponsorships for events that may have been cancelled, enabling our community partners to use funds to address their greatest needs, and reallocating dollars we had earmarked for strategic initiatives to provide relief grants to organizations that are helping people stay healthy during this public health emergency."

Melissa MacDonnell, president of the Liberty Mutual Foundation, discussed her work addressing the epidemic of youth homelessness in a recent interview for Authority Magazine. "Recently, to help reduce and end youth and young adult homelessness, Liberty Foundation made 44 youth homelessness grants totaling $6.6million,” said MacDonnell. “These grants will support nearly 15,000 young people across the country. In partnership with all those on the frontlines of this work, we are moving toward a world in which youth homelessness is non-existent; but in the meantime, when a young person does end up on the streets, we want it to be rare, brief, and episodic.”

Andrea Bertelsvice president, global responsibility and sustainability at Nielsen, was featured as the member of the month by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. “I’ve always been interested in how business, nonprofit organizations, and government can collaborate to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges,” said Bertels in her interview. “Though my current role is my first official corporate social responsibility job, it’s perfect for me, since I can also bring my economics background and love of spreadsheets to connect data to social causes.”
