Albert Einstein is lauded for his brilliant intellect, his kindness toward students, his humor, and—most importantly—his boundless imagination. What made Einstein unique was his ability to look beyond the limitations of others to see their capabilities, to laugh at absurdity rather than become depressed by it, and to imagine ways that current constraints could be overcome.

Though 99.99 percent of us will fall at least slightly short of Einstein’s intellect, we can adopt his behaviors and attitudes and make the most of the gifts we do possess. In our day-to-day work we, as corporate citizenship professionals, assess key challenges of our time, and imagine how our companies’ unique capabilities can be used to achieve progress. Increasingly, we will be asked to understand more—about social and environmental issues, our regulatory and political landscapes, the capabilities of our industries, the way we set goals and communicate progress. The list goes on...

With so many dimensions of our context in play, it has never been more important to carve out time to think. It is a professional hazard of our field that we tend to be so busy doing—that we have very little time to pause, reflect on our work, and look forward to new ideas.

At the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship, we work to provide you with the resources to make the best use of what little time for learning and reflection you do have. We are constantly learning—from leading academic studies, expert insights, our own research, and our members—so that we can deliver you the tools and information to advance your corporate citizenship work. As you apply new knowledge in your work and create new value, we learn from you—creating a virtuous cycle of sustained progress.

The community that you and your peers comprise is the foundation of the Center’s mission. We strive to link you to the best research, to new ideas, and—most importantly—to each other. In the past few months, we have made some important strides in this effort, the most obvious of which is our enhanced website. Our new, mobile-friendly site not only hosts all of our research and content, it also connects you directly to each other through our online member community, and to our executive educations courses—ALL of which are now available online.

You’ll find a catalog of these courses here on the site, as well as in our most recent issue of The Corporate Citizen. There, you will hear how leading companies are learning from their previous efforts to drive their future work, and can find the right educational pathway for you—whether you’re beginning your educational journey, are in need of a refresher, or are well on your way to earning one of our four certificates.

These are just a few examples of the ways we work to help you Know More, Do More, and Achieve More in your efforts to create a sustainable—and resilient future. As valuable and necessary as our work is here at the Center, it is matched many times over by the great work that YOU are undertaking in the field.
