Spotlight on You

Susan L. Lees will become The Allstate Corporation’s first-ever chief sustainability officer, transitioning from her previous role as chief legal officer and secretary. “This realignment of responsibilities is consistent with Susie’s decision announced in August to focus on environmental, social, and governance initiatives,” said Tom Wilson, chair, president, and CEO. “Allstate has been a leader in sustainability and recently earned a place on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the third consecutive year. Under Susie’s focused leadership we will accelerate our progress.” Congratulations, Susie!

In business advocacy news: Business leaders and trade groups called for an end to the violence in Washington, D.C., and a peaceful transfer of power after supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol where legislators were meeting to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College win. Chief executives, including the leaders of Apple and Bank of America, condemned the violence. The Business Roundtable, including CEOs of dozens of major U.S. companies such as Microsoft, also urged Mr. Trump and other officials to “put an end to the chaos and to facilitate the peaceful transition of power.”

Charles River Labs recently published its 2019 Corporate Citizenship report. This publication discloses its most up-to-date environmental, social, and governance (EGS) information, including a GRI content index and ESG performance data table. Management and performance highlights from the report include reducing Charles River Labs’ environmental footprint, commitment to employee safety, diversifying its board of directors, signing onto the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion, and donating more than $2 million to 300 local community organizations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation released its first-ever report detailing the company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. The new report, entitled A Clear Direction Forward, represents a significant shift in the company's prior approach to corporate responsibility reporting, with an increased emphasis on ethics and governance accountability. "CITGO has never been more dedicated to our core values of environmental stewardship, integrity, respect, fairness, social responsibility, operational availability, and competitiveness," said CITGO President and CEO Carlos Jordá. "This report shows those CITGO core values at work."

Waters Corporation released its 2020 Sustainability Report highlighting achievements and progress of the company’s sustainable operations, projects, and initiatives. “Our team is demonstrating that through our collective actions we can make meaningful impacts, even during the most challenging periods in our history,” said Dr. Udit Batra, president and CEO of Waters. “From investing in STEM education, to reimagining recyclable product packaging, to our COVID-19 Innovation Response Team, Waters is working to make the world safer and healthier for generations to come.”
