Spotlight on You
Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, celebrated the company's new partnership with Food for Free Committee, Inc., which improves access to healthy food by rescuing that would otherwise go to waste.
Allan Schoenberg, Nasdaq's vice president of global corporate communications, reflected on the company's impactful work over the past year, and cited its ESG Reporting Guide 2.0 as one of its best accomplishments.
Shari Briggs, university relations recruiter at Rockwell Automation, was recently recognized by the company's African American Professional Network as the inaugural Volunteer of the Year. "What an honor!" Briggs said. "I’m extremely humbled and inspired to keep going! #lifeatrok"
Verizon EVP & Chief Financial Officer Matt Ellis joined fellow CFOs in The Prince's Accounting for Sustainability Project (A4S) to encourage other companies to set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction commitments. Director of Social Responsibility Amanda Gardiner applauded the forward-thinking move: "It’s been an exciting year at Verizon. Lots of progress and lots to look forward to in 2020!"

Comerica Bank teamed up with the Detroit Lions to donate $18,000 to support students throughout metro Detroit. "We congratulate Winning Futures and their team of committed volunteers for their success in providing transformative experiences for our young people. The Winning Futures program connects students to mentors and other valuable resources that will help them be better prepared for the future," said Michael Cheatham, Comerica Bank’s vice president and Michigan external affairs market manager.
Hilton recognizes the power of decreasing, donating, and diverting food waste. The company reported, "Nearly 10% of greenhouse gas emissions come from food waste, so our properties, including the Hilton Dalaman Sarıgerme Resort & Spa, Double Tree By Hilton Alice Springs and Grand Wailea, are diverting food scraps from landfill by composting."
Dave McKay, president & CEO at RBC, reflected on the thinking behind his annual letter, published as part of his company's recent annual report. "This year, I wanted to go one step further to outline where RBC stands on some of the most pressing issues of our time in the eyes of our employees, clients, shareholders, and the public at large," wrote McKay. "I focused on three: climate change, data privacy and the future of work. In my message, I argue that bold action from private and public sector leaders can help us tackle these challenges in our home country – Canada – and ultimately provide a framework for how other nations across the globe can follow."
Subaru of America, Inc. released its inaugural Corporate Impact Report, which details the company’s efforts to address its environmental impacts; to impact the communities where Subaru employees live, work and serve; and to make Subaru the best place to work. “This report is our first of many and will give us a place to measure our corporate responsibility progress year over year, as well as provide transparency to our stakeholders who can challenge us to grow,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc.
