Christine Racine, director of human resource operations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, accepted recognition from the MA State House of Representatives for her company’s award as one of the “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the Disability Equality Index. Joining her were local recipients of the award from: EY, Fidelity, MassMutual, PwC, Raytheon, State Street, TD Bank, and Tufts Health Plan.
Nicola Dixon, executive director of the General Mills Foundation, penned a piece for the World Food Program USAto commemorate World Food Day. “The scope and scale of the world’s food imbalance and its consequences on people and the planet require bold and broad action,” says Dixon. “No single stakeholder group nor sector can do it alone. Each of us has a role to play. And together, we can make meaningful impact.”
Tristen Summers, a director at PwC, wrote an article on LinkedIn on National Coming Out Day about his positive experiences of acceptance at his company. “I never had a doubt that is how my PwC colleagues would respond. Because for eight years I watched the firm live out its message of inclusion across all forms of diversity—both at the leadership level and in the culture on the ground,” he said. “I think that the more human we are, the easier it will be for people to come out at work. The benefits of being out at work, to both employees and employers, are something we should all want for our teams and our companies.”

The Campbell Soup Foundation announced more than $1.5 million in grants to 22 organizations to strengthen and empower New Jersey-based communities and organizations. “We are proud of our 150-year history of giving back to the communities in which we operate,” said Kim Fortunato, president, Campbell Soup Foundation and director, community affairs. “In addition to financial support, we are proud of our strong volunteer engagement program that supports our community partners in a variety of ways.”
More than 50 Memphis-area high school students graduated from the FedEx Logistics Academy, a program designed to develop young talent and educate students about opportunities within the industry. “FedEx executives say this is another example of the company's commitment to the Memphis community,” said a local news article covering the event. “They hope this academy is just one of many more to come.”
Major League Baseball and its clubs commemorated Spirit Day 2019 on Thursday, October 17 as a continuation of baseball’s commitment to taking a stand against bullying among young people and to support show support for LGBTQ+ youth. The San Francisco Giants joined more than two dozen other teams in tweeting, “On #SpiritDay and every day, we support inclusion and stand against LGBTQ bullying.”
Subaru of America announced that, in the month of September, its employees collected more than 25,000 pounds of materials, including scrap metals, plastics, invasive species, and micro trash. The effort was part a series of nationwide clean-up events at iconic U.S. locations such as Yosemite National Park. “At Subaru, we feel it is our duty to give back and protect the Earth, and these milestones we’ve reached with TerraCycle, along with national and local partners, reflect our ongoing commitment to care for our planet,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc.
Wells Fargo announced its largest renewable energy purchase to date in a 10-year renewable energy agreement with NRG Energy. “Wells Fargo is focused on continuing to demonstrate leadership in the transition to a low carbon economy,” said Richard Henderson, head of Wells Fargo’s Corporate Properties Group. “Transitioning from the purchase of renewable energy certificates to long-term contracts that fund new sources of renewable energy is a critical piece of Wells Fargo’s 2020 renewable energy goal.”
