Bootcamp | Unconscious Bias and Cultural Competence
Throughout human history, our brains have evolved to have an automatic categorization process that makes connections, assignments, assumptions about “others”. We need our brain to process information quickly, which it does by putting the information into these categories. When we don’t take the time to unpack where these categorizations come from, we develop unconscious bias. Collective unconscious bias leads to disparities and inequities. In this session, we will explore how to identify unconscious bias, and replace it with curiosity about ‘others’ and build cultural competence.
