Spotlight on You
Susan M. Gray was named Chief Executive Officer of UNS Energy and its subsidiaries, including Center member Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and UniSource Energy Services, effective Jan. 1, 2021. Gray began her TEP career 26 years ago as a student intern, and worked her way up to being named President and Chief Operating Officer this year. “It’s a great privilege to lead a company that means so much to so many people,” Gray said. “Our employees are incredibly dedicated to providing safe, reliable service for our customers and supporting our communities as we invest in new energy technologies and build a cleaner, greener grid.” TEP plans to provide 70% of its power from wind and solar resources by 2035 while reducing carbon emissions 80%, the level needed to support worldwide efforts to limit global warming under the Paris Agreement on climate change. “Our plan provides a path to a sustainable energy future that doesn’t compromise on reliability or affordability,” said Gray.

Member Companies in the News
This week marks #GivingTuesday, an international day of giving taking place every Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Our member companies, including Apple, participated in corporate giving campaigns to celebrate the event.
Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association are launching the Healthy Relationships Community Grants initiative to address positive relationship health, with self and others. The initiative will focus on three distinct areas: supporting programs that build and improve mental health resiliency among vulnerable populations, improving relationship skills of the next generation, as well as programs designed to strengthen and provide critical services to survivors of domestic violence today. MLB and MLBPA will jointly award $3 million in funding over 2020 and 2021 to U.S.-based nonprofit and global non-governmental organizations.
TD Bank recently released its ambitious climate action plan, taking clear and ambitious steps to help address the urgent challenges of climate change to help economies transition successfully to the low-carbon economy. The plan includes a target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations and financing activities by 2050, an industry-specific approach to prioritize and advance GHG reduction opportunities, the creation of a new TD Sustainable Finance and Corporate Transitions Group within TD Securities, and a creation of a TD ESG Centre of Expertise. TD also announced that it will not provide any new project-specific financial services, including advisory services, for activities that are directly related to the exploration, development, or production of oil and gas within the Arctic Circle, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
Verizon is supporting efforts to bridge the digital divide in New York City public schools with a $43 million commitment to enable more students to learn digitally. Verizon is supporting the district’s ongoing efforts to provide remote learning tools by donating 20,000 mobile hotspots to students who face barriers to internet and technology access in NYC Department of Education (DOE) schools, and providing grant funding to several education nonprofit organizations to enable continued STEM education. "The hotspot donation, our commitment to work with local non-profits to benefit students and the expansion of our Verizon Innovative Learning Schools initiative further demonstrates our commitment to Verizon's home city," said Anthony Lewis, region vice president of state government affairs at Verizon. "Our students need connectivity to enable learning from home, and we are proud to step up and be part of the solution."
Wells Fargo will donate $5 to the American Red Cross for every post on the three channels that uses the #WFGivesThanks hashtag, up to $1 million, through Dec. 27. It’s an opportunity to thank teachers, frontline workers, military members, and others who have brought comfort, hope, and kindness to their communities amid the pandemic while, at the same time, supporting the work of the Red Cross. “Our hope with #WFGivesThanks is to brighten the holidays and honor what so many frontline heroes have done to carry us through the pandemic,” said Lynne Walters, head of global employee engagement for Wells Fargo’s Social Impact & Sustainability group.
