Spotlight on You

Congratulations to Uzair Qadeer, who was just appointed as Alexion's first chief diversity officer. The creation of this role a step toward Alexion's efforts to spread DI&B efforts across the company to employee programs, corporate social responsibility initiatives, culture efforts, and patient programs. "At Alexion, we believe that diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice, and belonging is having that voice be heard,” said Qadeer. “Our work isn't done until employees and patients can feel a true sense of belonging."

Susan Foosness, senior business operations advisor in behavioral health at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, published an article exploring Cultural Humility in Behavioral Health: A Place to Start, which included learnings from an interview with Yolo Akili Robinson, founder and executive director of the Black Emotional Mental Health Collective. "White, female social workers like myself have a responsibility to understand our own biases and work to develop cultural humility in our clinical practices," wrote Foosness.

Fiji George, director, climate and sustainability at Cheniere Energy, Inc., was featured in a recent webinar with the Society of Petroleum Engineers on innovation and sustainability in the oil & gas industry. "We all feel this and we all understand now that climate change is happening around us," said George. "The challenge of the transition to 'green' our economy is significant... but these challenges result in engineers finding solutions."

Alexion is seeking a Head of Belonging in Boston to define and reinforce an enterprise-wide diversity, inclusion and belonging strategy.

Campbell Soup Co. is looking for a Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Analyst at its Camden, NJ, location, who will be responsible for data management, analytics, and reporting as a support for the Campbell's Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability team, as well as support internal science-based targets, scope 3 and water risk assessment processes, and other projects.

Fannie Mae is looking for a Senior Vice President of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) & Mission in Washington, DC, to set the company’s ESG and mission agenda in concert with critical enterprise stakeholders.

Honeywell is seeking a Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator in Smithfield, RI, who will provide a key role in the HSE function, and support key processes and help track performance metrics.

Samsung is hiring a Corporate Social Responsibility Manager in San Jose, CA, to work with leaders and colleagues to develop messaging and programming for key CSR campaigns and programs.

Trane Technologies is seeking a Corporate Social Responsibility Leader in Davidson, NC, to refresh, revitalize, and manage the company’s citizenship and philanthropy strategy with a goal of enhancing our performance and reputation in social sustainability.

Member Companies in the News

Together with NBA basketball star Donovan Mitchell, adidas is introducing the second version of the all-star's signature footwear line, D.O.N. Issue #2. The sequel sneaker’s name remains a testament to Mitchell’s Determination Over Negativity, aiming to be a vehicle for positive disruption on the court and in communities. "I don't just speak for Donovan Mitchell, I speak for black people and minorities,” said Mitchell. “Knowing change is not necessarily happening next year of the one after, but it does start with the future and that is where kids are." The second iteration of his signature shoe also introduces a new partnership with Crayola, representing Mitchell’s desire to inspire others to express themselves on the court, in the classroom and in life, as well as highlighting his creativity and passion for education as a change-agent.

In South Africa, Dow employees are partnering with a nonprofit to exchange plastic bottle caps for wheelchairs—giving people in need the chance at mobility and independence. The initiative is one of several community programs being funded through Dow’s newly launched ALL IN ERG Fund, part of Dow's Engaging for Impact sustainability goal. The fund provides up to $200,000 in seed grants annually to support inclusion programming initiated by employee resource groups (ERGs). “Advancing a circular economy while changing lives is a win-win,” said Sharon Singh, account manager SSA and a member of Dow’s Disability Employee Network ERG chapter in South Africa. “The simple act of obtaining a wheelchair represents freedom and opportunity. With a wheelchair, beneficiaries have been able to get an education, gain employment, and be less reliant on others. It makes me proud to work for a company that care about uplifting our communities.”

FedEx has launched its e-bike fleet in Toronto, Canada, to make faster and more sustainable deliveries. This pilot program supports the company's commitment to connecting the world in responsible, resourceful ways.

Fifth Third Bank CEO Greg D. Carmichael used LinkedIn to celebrate how Fifth Third has been working to contribute to the relationship between financial education and strong communities: “Fifth Third Bank has invested over the years in various financial education programs to meet the needs of all age groups, from elementary school students to adults,” said Carmichael. “With the dedication and volunteer efforts of our employees, and partnerships with organizations like EVERFI and University of Cincinnati The Alpaugh Family Economics Center at UC, Fifth Third has already educated 2.5 million people - and many more to come.”
