Spotlight on You
Jorge Casimiro, chief social & community impact officer at Nike, and president of Nike Foundation, announced the release the company's FY19 Impact Report on LinkedIn. “Check out our progress to create a healthy planet, active communities, and equal playing fields,” Casimiro encouraged. “Thanks to our partners and teammates for making it all possible as we continue to up our game.”
Charmain Jackman, the winner of the 2019 Citizens Bank Small Business Community Champion Award Contest, recently launched her new business, InnoPsych, designed to help people of color quickly and easily find a therapist they can trust to understand their unique cultural perspective. The $10,000 prize went a long way in bringing the directory to life. “Thanks to Citizens Bank for providing #capital to get my business from #idea2action! I have #launched!” said Jackman on LinkedIn.
Joe Ruiz, director of humanitarian relief & resilience and environmental sustainability at the UPS Foundation, was featured on the Center’s webinar this week recapping the latest research findings from the State of Corporate Citizenship 2020 study. "We absolutely believe that corporations have a purpose to work to strengthen communities," said Ruiz. "Sustainability and corporate citizenship are true business imperatives for us." Shannon Schuyler, principal and chief purpose & inclusion officer at PwC, spoke at the NRF 2020 Vision: Retail’s Big Show on how the retail industry can build a diverse and inclusive workplace. “This industry specifically is really looking to do even more around diversity and inclusion, and that’s an incredible commitment,” she said. “Diversity is becoming central to the success that we will have as a society and what are we going to do to change it, because we can no longer pretend it’s not happening.”

Comerica Bank and KPMG’s Family for Literacy Dallas donated 4,000 new books to Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Academy. Volunteers sorted and distributed fiction books to more than 400 eighth graders. “At Comerica, we strive to help people in the communities we live and serve in be successful, and one of the ways we do that is through equipping youth, like Franklin’s students, with the necessary tools today, so they will be prepared for tomorrow’s opportunities,” said Brian Foley, Comerica Bank Texas Market President.
Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association are launching the Healthy Relationships Community Grants initiative to address positive relationship health, with self and others. The initiative will focus on three distinct areas: supporting programs that build and improve mental health resiliency among vulnerable populations, improving relationship skills of the next generation, as well as programs designed to strengthen and provide critical services to survivors of domestic violence. MLB and MLBPA will jointly award $3 million in funding over 2020 and 2021, and U.S.-based nonprofit and global non-governmental organizations are encouraged to apply.
Corporate Knights announced its 16th annual 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list, based on metrics covering resource, employee and financial management, and clean revenue. Corporate Knights analyzed 7,395 companies with more than $1 billion (USD) in revenues to create the list. Many Center members were included among the list:
