Spotlight on You

Evan Matzen, senior VP, director, corporate citizenship at BBVA, celebrated BBVA's partnership with Avenue CDC, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing Houston's Washington Avenue and Near Northside Community. Matzen commended "all the great work we do together to improve financial health in our communities."

Francis Hyatt was appointed Liberty Mutual's first Chief Sustainability Officer. Hyatt will further enhance the organization's ongoing focus on significant environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, and lead the company's Office of Sustainability. "Now more than ever it's crucial that companies take an active role in advancing their ESG agendas, and I look forward to partnering with internal and external stakeholders around the world to help drive positive impact in society," said Hyatt.

Lindsay-Rae McIntyre, chief diversity officer at Microsoft, recognized some steps that can help to increase inclusion and diversity at the workplace. "Want to be an ally? Put aside your wants and expectations for other individuals," said McIntyre. "Strive to understand the experiences and truths of those who aren’t in the same position. Educate yourself, listen without judgment, and genuinely seek to understand."

Stephanie Gaywood, director of community engagement at Oakland Athletics of the MLB, celebrated how the A's front office and players recently spread holiday cheer and made a positive difference by taking part in a week of community giving. “We love being a part of this community,” the A’s said.

Hilton is expanding its food donation initiative to nearly 300 hotels in time for the holidays. Its efforts will feed more than 160,000 annually, while diverting millions of pounds of food waste from landfills. “At Hilton, we have incredible potential to solve some of society’s most pressing challenges through our hospitality mission,” said Katie Fallon, executive vice president of corporate affairs, responsible for Hilton’s corporate responsibility efforts. “We will keep at this until every one of our hotels around the world is diverting food waste to address the hunger crisis, so that our guests know that when they stay with us, they are traveling with a purpose.”

MetLife has received the HACR Award for Corporate Inclusion, in recognition of its success in promoting Hispanic inclusion, for the eighth year in a row. “As a purpose-driven company, MetLife is committed to building a culture of inclusion where everyone feels valued and can engage in meaningful work that makes a difference,” said Cindy Pace, MetLife’s global chief diversity and inclusion officer. “We’re honored to receive this award, and we’re grateful for all the contributions that our Hispanic employees make to our company every day.”

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory announced the launch of the Regeneron DNA Learning Center, a new dedicated laboratory for student science education. "We strongly believe that there is nothing more important to helping solve the daunting issues we face today – such as climate change, global hunger, and incurable diseases – than inspiring and engaging great young scientists,” said George D. Yancopoulos, co-founder, president and chief scientific officer at Regeneron. “The Regeneron DNA Learning Center is one more step in that direction, and together with other efforts such as the Regeneron Science Talent Search, reflects our commitment to fostering the next generation of scientists.”
