Boston College is well-known for its many traditions which celebrate the community that makes this University so special. Some of the traditions sponsored by OSI are highlighted below.
Christmas Tree Lighting
Santa Claus makes his annual visit from the North Pole to the Boston College campus—not by sleigh, but by special BC Police Department escort. He will celebrate the Christmas tree lighting with BC revelers at this annual event officiated by University President William P. Leahy, S.J. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the event features caroling and performances by student groups. BC Dining Services will be on hand with treats and hot chocolate will be available to warm the crowd.
Homecoming
Homecoming is a celebration of the spirit, mission, and tradition at Boston College. Throughout the week of events and activities, students, faculty, staff, and alumni actively engage in fostering a sense of community and pride for BC. This year, Homecoming will encompass athletic events, alumni activities, and residential/social experiences. We are excited to welcome alumni back to campus, and engage students and community members in our traditions moving forward!
Marathon Monday
Located on Mile 21 of the Boston Marathon, Boston College hosts its annual Mile 21 concert, breakfast, food vendors, interactive activities, and cheer section as runners make their way to the finish line.
Mudstock & Modstock
Mudstock and Modstock combine high-energy competition, community spirit, and live music. Kicking off early on the final day of classes, Mudstock transforms part of the Mod parking lot into mud volleyball courts where students compete for the Mudstock championship. As day fades into night, the excitement shifts gears with Modstock, which turns the other half of Mod lot into a vibrant concert venue, lighting up lower campus with electrifying music, celebrating the close of the academic year in unforgettable style.
Showdown
Showcasing months of dedication and hardwork, ALC Showdown brings Boston College’s 17 dance teams to Conte Forum for an electric competition and cultural showcase. Each team battles it out on stage, all while raising funds for the charities they champion.
Stokes Set
Stokes Set is CAB's highly anticipated annual fall concert, a vibrant tradition that transforms Stokes Lawn into a dynamic outdoor music venue. Nestled amidst the iconic academic buildings near Stokes Hall, the event kicks off at sunset, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of lights, music, and energy. Over the years, it has showcased an impressive lineup of artists, including Daya, Hunter Hayes, Bryce Vine, KYLE, COIN, and Men I Trust.
Student Involvement Fair
This signature event, hosted annually by the Office of Student Involvement, highlights 300+ registered student organizations, programs, and departments as they come together to welcome the incoming class and highlight extra-curricular opportunities.
