In the spirit of the Jesuit, Catholic intellectual tradition’s pursuit of truth, we emphasize the process of discernment in decision making, prayer, and conversations with advisors. Discernment is about gathering as much information as possible to inform intense personal reflection. Favorite thing to do in Boston: Eat! Boston and its many neighborhoods offer countless options to explore the city through food.

Favorite spot on campus: It's right off campus, but the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. It's beautiful and has a great walking path.

Why CSTM: The opportunity to be part of a faith-filled community committed to both spiritual formation and rigorous academic inquiry deepens one's sense of self, God, and the world. A CSTM education is both nourishing and challenging, building students' capacity to be leaders and change-makers in the church and world.

Favorite CSTM tradition: The Welcome Back BBQ. The food is amazing, and it's a great representation of the many ways our whole community – students, faculty, and staff – comes together.

Favorite things to do in Boston: Experiencing all that Boston has to offer in the arts and culture.

Favorite spot on campus: There are too many to count! I am an alum from both undergrad and CSTM and there are so many special spots around main campus and Brighton campus that mean so much to me that I couldn't just name one. I see BC as my home and love all of its nooks and crannies!

Why CSTM: This is where the spirit brought me. The School of Theology and Ministry was such a gift and made an incredible impact on me academically, spiritually and professionally.  I owe a great deal to the CSTM and the genuine community that exists.  I have come back to work professionally here because of the incredible students, staff and faculty.  There is just no other place like it!

Favorite CSTM tradition: My favorite tradition is welcoming new students and returning students to the community during orientation. There is so much energy and excitement about the new year ahead and it is wonderful getting to see all of the new members join the community after a full year of recruitment.

Favorite Thing to Do in Boston: I love the Make Way for Ducklings statue in the Boston Public Garden! I read that book all the time as a kid. The little ducklings often get little sweaters based on the season and I just find it very endearing. A visit to the ducks is good for the inner child.

Favorite Spot on Campus: The Teresa of Avila statue on Brighton Campus.

Why CSTM: The CSTM has a curiosity about the work of theology and ministry. There is an openness to discovery and questions that really excites me. The faculty and staff are really genuinely excited to celebrate the areas students are interested in and want to walk with students on their journeys.

Favorite CSTM Tradition: My favorite CSTM tradition is Night of the Arts! The CSTM community comes together to celebrate the artists in our community. I love the continued opportunities at the CSTM to witness the intersection of art and theology. I also find it to be a night of great joy and community building!

Favorite Thing to Do in Boston: Exploring the city and trying new food spots!

Favorite spot on campus: St. Ignatius Church!

Why CSTM: I chose CSTM for a variety of reasons, but a key factor was the ability to blend a theological education with practical ministry. Surrounded by a diverse community, I knew CSTM would offer a unique opportunity to build a strong academic foundation by engaging in dialogue with knowledgeable professors and peers from different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. All of which would provide me with ideas and skills that I could carry into spaces of ministry and help shape me as a pastoral leader for the communities I hope to serve and be a part of.

Favorite CSTM tradition: My favorite CSTM tradition is Thursday liturgy and repast! It's a time where we can come together as a community to celebrate the Eucharist and also share a meal afterwards. I think it speaks to the vibrant community CSTM has established, in which we are all invited to spend time with one another outside of the classroom and enjoy each others' presence.

Favorite spot on campus: I find movement to be extremely helpful for initiating prayer, so I love walking around the reservoir or visiting the St. Iggy statue on the Chestnut Hill campus!

Why CSTM: I wanted an education that would form me holistically, within a diverse community, and substantiated by a rigorous education. The CSTM community is so intentional about remaining grounded in prayer and oriented towards ministry for the Church.

Favorite CSTM tradition:  I live in the CSTM Formation House, and every Tuesday, we gather for a community dinner. It's so special to have a regular time for us to be together as a house community, to reflect on our week and be attentive to how God is moving in our lives.

Favorite thing to do in Boston: Going to (admittedly awesome) Fenway Park to see my Yankees beat the Red Sox!

Favorite spot on campus: Lobby of Gasson Hall

Why CSTM: The CSTM is now my third stop on the eternal road of Jesuit education, and what keeps bringing me back is so palpably present at the CSTM: a commitment to forming the whole person, rigorous academic study, and an active spirit of communal discernment. Each member of this community is deeply dedicated to our collective formation and to attuning our minds and hearts to seeking God in all things. This cornerstone of Ignatian spirituality enlivens the CSTM and is made active by an awesome community of students, scholars, and staff.

Favorite CSTM tradition: Our Thursday community Mass and Repast meals have quickly become a favorite tradition of mine! The intentional community of faith and fellowship that the CSTM professes is so clearly alive on Thursday afternoons.
