Spotlight on You
John Kitchens, Director of Corporate Citizenship at CSX Corporation, received the 2021 Cornerstone Award from Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit serving America’s military families. Kitchens is being recognized for his role in the creation and launch of Pride in Service, CSX’s community investment platform that supports members of the military, veterans, first responders and their families.

Congratulations to the following companies that recently released environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reports:
- Black Hills Corp. announced the release of its 2020 Corporate Sustainability Report, showcasing the company’s environmental, social and governance performance and its progress on major projects and climate goals. The report also highlights how in 2020 the Black Hills Corp. team worked together to quickly adapt to the uncertainty of the pandemic, to safely serve its communities and reliably supply essential energy to customers.
- NETSCOUT announced that it issued its inaugural Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report that details the company's efforts to support community-based digital inclusion programs, drive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), reduce electricity demands across its facilities, and continue to design solutions that help customers reduce their environmental impact.
FedEx sponsored the Shaping Black Futures Toyota car, which was featured in a NASCARA race on August 28. The car was specially designed to showcase FedEx’s support to the historically Black colleges and university (HBCU) community. To bolster the effort, NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin’s #11 Fed Ex Toyota Camry will feature a special HBCU-themed paint scheme for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
Philip Morris International’s U.S. Internship Program was awarded the 2021 Diversity Impact Award from PRISM International and Talent Solutions - Philip Morris International (PMI) was awarded the 2021 Top 10 Diversity Impact Actions Award for its inaugural U.S. internship program with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). PMI’s U.S. internship is managed in partnership with TMCF. TMCF is the largest organization in the U.S. exclusively representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Leading U.S. corporations partner with HBCUs to facilitate building a diverse pipeline of talent within their workforce. PMI received this recognition with 10 other corporate awardees, including Bank of America, Erie Insurance, Nationwide, Novant Health, State Street, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and UPS.
Umpqua Bank Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) of Umpqua Bank, a subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: UMPQ), awarded 72 community grants to local nonprofits across its five-state footprint totaling $271K in its second round of community grant funding this year. “Umpqua Bank recognizes the tireless work of our local nonprofits whose efforts contribute to safe, healthy and thriving communities,” shared Randy Choy, vice president of community giving & nonprofit partnerships and managing director of the Umpqua Bank Charitable Foundation. “Grants and volunteering are just two of the ways we are honored to support these nonprofits whose efforts are key to economic vitality.” The grants are part of Umpqua Bank’s overall foundation and corporate giving program that has invested more than $12.5 million since the Foundation was formed in 2014.
