Clough Colloquium
Holder

Holder Discusses Voting Rights

Leading up to last fall’s presidential election, the Clough Colloquium featured former United States Attorney General Eric Holder, who spoke quite fittingly about the Voting Rights Act. Holder addressed recent reports of new regulations that affect the ease of voting in communities that are made up primarily of people of color, and about the steps that citizens can take to preserve the right to vote.

Sandel Talks Social Justice & Ethics

Michael Sandel, a Harvard political philosophy professor and best-selling author, came to Boston College’s campus to discuss justice and ethics with freshmen in the Carroll School of Management. Sandel began his talk by addressing people’s frustration with decision making in politics. Referencing how decisions are made, Sandel claimed that, “Philosophy belongs in the city where citizens gather, where we figure out what is the right thing to do.”

The American Dream Event Series

The fall semester kicked off the yearlong 10th anniversary celebration of the Winston Center. The Center expanded its reach across campus by collaborating with various University groups and departments. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the first labor union in the United States, we and Patricia Riggin (Theatre) conceptualized and presented the three-part American Dream Event Series.

At the Winston’s Cape house in September, the Jenks Class of 2017 heard Mr. Winston and guest speaker Jack MacKinnon talk about the importance of nurturing and leveraging relationships that lead to both personal and professional development and fulfillment.
