Leadership development is essential for corporate citizenship professionals striving to excel in their roles. For more than 25 years the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship has made leadership development an important aspect of the management and professional development programs it offers. Leaders in corporate citizenship have a variety of opportunities to learn through the Center’s programs and courses – structured to fit professionals’ needs based on their responsibilities, scope of influence, and operational focus. Program participants hear from business leaders, top educators and peers who share knowledge and experience that is immediately applicable and will enhance their skills and performance.
Effective leadership is critical for a company that wants to make the transition toward strategic integrated corporate social responsibility, or advance that strategy to a higher level. The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship trains business professionals to identify leadership challenges and understand leadership styles, recognize the impact of organizational culture, and to apply the communication skills required for change management.
The Center’s Leadership Academy is a program for developing leaders with strategic responsibilities within the corporate citizenship spectrum – from community involvement to diversity/inclusion to supply chain to EHS. The program is a comprehensive blend of on-campus instructor-led classes and off-campus, facilitated distance learning. Participants who complete the program are awarded a Certificate of Corporate Citizenship Leadership from the Boston College Carroll School of Management.
The course of study for the Academy is presented in five focus areas:
- Setting the Context for Corporate Citizenship Excellence
- Leaders and Leadership
- Organizational Change
- Communicating Effectively
All Academy participants gather for a one-day Leader Summit to share the experiences, successes, and ongoing challenges of their leadership journey. The Leader Summit is held in conjunction with the Center’s annual International Corporate Citizenship Conference.
Community Involvement Roundtable
The Community Involvement Roundtable brings together experienced professionals from companies that take a strong, active role in corporate social responsibility and corporate community involvement, in particular. The Roundtable is an ongoing Center forum where leaders identify and understand critical social issues, review changing public policy, assess public expectations and prepare companies for a new and more effective community involvement.
