Research Briefs: Get Smarter Faster

Research Briefs is a knowledge product offered twice monthly to Center members that provides summaries of recent or seminal research findings from corporate practice and academic study that offer insights and tools you can apply to your work. Once a month a new edition of Research Briefs is emailed to members with links to the latest items we’ve added to the library of briefs on our website. In addition to receiving the twice monthly editions of the Research Briefs by email, members have exclusive access to additional briefs on our website, including items archived from previous months. Organizational characteristics of a firm can influence the amount of philanthropic contributions

The organizational structure at the top levels of a company impacts corporate philanthropy, which affects business outcomes like reputation, consumer loyalty, and employee engagement. CEO tenure, board size and centrality, and the percentage of female board directors and senior managers all affect corporate philanthropy.

Adoption of environmental management systems has a positive impact on financial performance of fashion and textiles firms

This research looked at manufacturers and whether or not they had adopted ISO 14000. It was demonstrated that those who were certified in ISO 14000 had improved profitability from implementing cost-saving techniques.

Inspirational Appeals are the Most Effective Way of Winning Environmental Project Buy-In

Employees should utilize inspirational appeals, rational persuasion, and consultation when trying to build buy-in within their organization during the development of environmental projects. The study found that inspirational appeals are positively related to gaining the commitment of others.

Manufacturers and suppliers work together to achieve results in manufacturing and environmental performance

Research finds that companies that proactively engage with their suppliers or customers on environmental issues may reap the rewards in performance. By working closely with suppliers and customers, research suggests that both environmental and manufacturing performance can be improved.
